Mary Listened

35The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be calledb the Son of God. 36Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.37For no word from God will ever fail.”
38“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. (Luke 1)

Thoughts: Mary, perhaps of any character of scripture was a great listener.  Her attitude was one of humble listening and praise to God.  Mary was not a criticizer or someone to rock the boat.  She was a quiet, faithful woman full of grace and humility.   She was always the Lord's servant and was willing to roll with the punches and joys of life.    In this she sets us all a  great example.  She listened to God's angel, even if she didn't fully understand how it would be.  It is pride that makes us understand before we believe.  It is humility that allows us to believe before we fully understand.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be a humble listener.
