3/2/2012- God's Rescue Plan

10- 3/2- WSC- 20(WLC- 30)
Q.- Did God leave all human beings to die in this condition of sin and misery?
A. It pleased God that from the beginning of time to choose some to have everlasting life.  He freed these from their condition of sin and misery by bringing them into a condition of salvation by a Redeemer and entering into a covenant of grace with them.

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— (Ephesians 1:4-5)

But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14 He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thess. 2:13-14)

Thoughts: The good news is that God did not leave us in our sin and misery, but He planned to rescue us, sought to rescue us, and indeed rescue some.  He offers his rescuing hand to us- humbling himself as a man.  Christ came so that those who join themselves to Him in faith, will be under the same blessings that He is under.  When they are joined in this covenant- by faith on the inside and fruitfulness son the outside, they are in effect holding onto his coattails all the way to the presence of the Father.  The covenant phrase is “You will be my people, and I will be your God.”

Prayer: Thank you, Lord for your rescuing us, and the salvation you offer.

redeemer.

1647 Q. 20. Did God leave all mankind to perish in the estate of sin and misery?
A. God, having out of his mere good pleasure, from all eternity, elected some to everlasting life,
did enter into a covenant of grace to deliver them out of the estate of sin and misery, and to bring them into an estate of salvation by a Redeemer.
