7/3/13- No Lone Ranger

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” (Genesis 2:18)

29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. (Ephesians 5:29-32)

[This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one.  New Living Bible]

I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too. (Elijah in 1 Kings 19:10)

Thoughts: Today the Lone Ranger movie comes out.  The "Lone Ranger" was called "Lone" for he was the only ranger to survive a massacre, but also because many times he seemed alone in fighting crime and injustice.
There are times when we may feel like the Lone Ranger- with even Tonto gone.  This was how Elijah felt.  But the Church is there (In Elijah's case 7,000 who had yet to bow the knee to Baal) to help us and encourage us.  We are not designed to be alone.
In fact, Genesis 2 speaks of it is not good for us to be alone- so God made a helper (Eve for Adam).  The oneness of Christ with His Church is illustrated by the marriage relationship.  But this also infers that we are one with each other as joint members of His body.  We are not called to be lone rangers- sitting alone by our computers.  We are called to love and to gather and to do the Lord's work together.

Prayer:  Lord, keep me from being smug, aloof, and alone in my faith.  Put people and a church in my life that I may serve you better.
