What Good Thing

16Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

17“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” (Matthew 19:16,17)

Thoughts: The question asked was a bit backwards.  The Rich Young Ruler was looking for a good thing to do.  Jesus said to enter into life he must keep the commandments.   The problem is that no on can keep the commandments- not even this very moral person.  There is only one good- and no one is perfect.
     Religion wants to do things  to earn their way to heaven.  But the way of Christ is the way of belief not works.  It is by grace that we are able to enter life.  

Prayer: Lord, let me rest on your goodness instead of my potential good acts.
