“Build up, build up, prepare the road!
Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people.”
15For this is what the high and exalted One says—
he who lives forever, whose name is holy:
“I live in a high and holy place,
but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
16I will not accuse them forever,
nor will I always be angry,
for then they would faint away because of me—
the very people I have created.
17I was enraged by their sinful greed;
I punished them, and hid my face in anger,
yet they kept on in their willful ways.
18I have seen their ways, but I will heal them;
I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners,
19creating praise on their lips.
Peace, peace, to those far and near,”
says the Lord. “And I will heal them.”
20But the wicked are like the tossing sea,
which cannot rest,
whose waves cast up mire and mud.
21“There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”
Thoughts: Isaiah just rebuked the Israelites for following the practices of the nations around them- sacrificing their children and worshiping rocks and stones. He made them sound silly. Btu then more seriously he points out that God is with the humble and contrite who repent. He is able to give peace to those who truly seek Him. But there is no peace for those who will never say they are sorry or repent. The proud who will not bow the knee to God will have a tough time in this life and the next. Those who rebel against their Maker are setting themselves up to lose. The wicked, the selfish, the proud cannot have peace because we are not designed to rebel or think we know better than God.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be contrite. Forgive me of my sins. Grant me the peace of forgiveness with you.
