Praying for the State of The Union

"I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.  This is good, and pleases God our Savior."  (1 Timothy 2:1-3)

I just finished watching a "State of the Union" speech by President Trump who is toward the end of an impeachment trial.  It is clear that there is division in the union.  The Speaker of the House tore up his speech.  Some of what the president said was clearly inflammatory to the other side.  Applause was often limited to only half the building.  There was a missing handshake between the Speaker and the President.  Some were protesting that they were even there.
My take on this is that while our "state" may be okay, our "union" is not so okay.  The day after the State of the Union address the Senate will vote on articles of impeachment.
I wish we could have somehow recognized the division- "naming the demon" so to speak.  But the nonetheless, our country needs prayers, and we do not need to foster more division afterwards.
Our country and especially our leaders need our prayers.  Our country needs to come back to the God who gives us peace as a world, as a nation, as families, and as individuals.  We should pray for the real state of the union- that our country would be blessed by God.

Prayer: Lord, we do pray for our leaders.  Guide them in the way you would have them to go.  Help them to work together for the good of the people and even for your glory.
