God's wisdom

6We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”b —
the things God has prepared for those who love him—
10these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. (1 Corinthians 2:6-10)

Thoughts: The amazing claim is that we can know a bit of the mind of God- the wisdom of God.  It is a better type of wisdom than earthly knowledge.  The wisdom of God is foolishness to the intelligent.  It is meant to be a mystery.  A mystery understood not by education, but by faith.  We cannot begin to understand the blessings of God in this life or the life to come.  But the Spirit assures us of these blessings.

Prayer: Lord, let me trust in your wisdom.  Let me walk by faith and not by sight.

1/12/12- The Only Wise God

WSC- Define God.
A: God is a Spirit, whose being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and truth are all infinite, eternal, and unchangeable.

Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. (Psalm 147:5)

to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. (Romans 16:27)

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (1 Tim. 1:17)

To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.(Jude 1:25)

Thoughts: What does the phrase "only wise God" mean?  It means that God's wisdom is incomparable to the wisdom of any other being.  His wisdom is infinite, eternal and unchangeable.  Our wisdom is finite, temporal (and limited by time), and wisdom often encourages us to change our minds.  Since God sees the future and the past perfectly, He does not have any factors that would make changing His mind necessary.  He not only sees all- but is able to understand and make sense of things.  Wisdom is defined as crystallized intelligence- an ability to take different facts and get them to make sense.  God's creation makes perfect sense to Him.  He is like a conductor bringing the notes together to make a symphony.
Because God is so wise, we can trust in His wisdom.  He is wiser than us, so we should humble ourselves before Him.  He is wiser than us, so when we cannot see a way out, or a way through- then we can still trust Him.

Prayer: Give me grace, O Lord to trust that you see and understand what I cannot begin to see or understand.  Even the darkness is not dark to you.
