8/15/12- The Holy God

Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them Ye shall be holy;  for I the LORD your God am holy. (Leviticus 19:22)

“This, then, is how you should pray:“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name," (Matthew 6:9)

Q. 101. For what do we pray in the first request?
A. In the first request (hallowed by your name) we pray that God will enable us and others to glorify Him through His means of revelation and that He will work out everything to His own glory.

Thoughts: God is holy enough so that even His name- the symbol of His person is holy.  This prayer is not just that we would not take God's name in vain, but that we would do more- that we would glorify God's name.  God gives us the ability to pray and the ability to glorify Him.  We are designed to glorify God and to praise His name.  We are made to hallow His name.

Prayer: Help me, Lord, to hallow your name, to honor you and not to bring dishonor to you.
