Third Request of Lord's Prayer

Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; Not my will, but yours  be done. (Lk. 22:42)

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Mt. 6:10

WSC Q. 103 (Sloan 2012)- What do we pray for in the third request?
A. The third request, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, we ask that God would be gracious to make us have the ability to know, obey, and to submit to His will in everything as the angels do in heaven.

Thoughts: Jesus was willing to submit to God's will even when it meant a cross for Him.  That is why He could say in the garden- "Not my will but yours be done."  So we should submit to God's will knowing it is best- even if all we see before us is our own cross.

Prayer: Help me to know, obey, and submit to your will, O Lord.

Q. 103. For what do we pray in the third request?
A. In the third request (your will be done on earth as it is in heaven) we pray that by His grace God
would make us have the capability and the will to know, obey, and submit to His will in everything, as
the angels do in heaven.
