The Elders' Role in Healing

13Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:13-16)

Thoughts: Prayer is the answer.  When we are in trouble or happy- we pray. The prayer may be supplication or praise or thanksgiving.  The sick are called to ask the leaders of the church to pray as well.  It is important for the leaders of the church to care for the needs of these people. When the leaders have faith- and pray accordingly- amazing things happen.  Forgiveness is also a means to physical, mental, and spiritual healing.  The prayer of a righteous person is powerful.  Confessions of sins is important, but a willingness to live a righteous life should parallel confession of sins.  Confession without repentance or intention to live righteously means nothing.  True healing comes when we stop our wounds from sin and evil.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the gift of healing.  May the church see its role in healing is important.  Give us the grace to bring your healing hope to the world.
