The Manner of Giving

2“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (Matthew 6:2-4)

Thoughts: We give for God's glory not our own.  We d not give for the applause of others ,but to please God.  We do not need to draw attention to ourselves in how we give.  Instead the attention goes to God.  We do not need to pull out our financial statement or tax return and show it around bragging.  This passage gives us incentive to give anonymously.  The best kind of giving is when we can give without expecting anything in return.  Such giving is given in faith that God will see and be pleased.

Prayer: Lord, let me desire your glory above my own.  May you receive the glory from how I give.
