2/15/12- Spiritual Relation to Creation

Q. 9. What is creation?
A. Creation is God’s making everything out of nothing by His powerful word in six days – and all very good.

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. (Hebrews 11:3)

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Rev. 4:11)

Thoughts: The catechism defines creation by how it relates to the Creator.  The catechism tells us who creates, of what materials things are created, how God created, and the end result of His creation.
     God makes ex nihilo- out of nothing.  We create using the things we already have seen, and the material already provided.  Our imagination is limited to what we see and experience.  Material creation was made by the spiritual.  This is one reason why Jesus could walk on water, calm the storm, and heal the sick- He is the Creator who can shape and change the physical.
     This also tells us that God separates Himself from creation; that the world has not always existed; that the world did not happen by chance- but with a good purpose;

God made us, so every breath we take is a gift from Him.  Creation is a gift, and so we should be grateful to Him.

Prayer: Every good and perfect gift comes from you, O Lord.  Help me to live a grateful and good life.
