1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. (2 Timothy 3)
Thoughts: There are people who believe that we are getting better and better as a society. The question is not simply are we getting smarter and wealthier. That is the illusion. The question is whether we are able to get better morally. This passage infers that before the end of time, people are worse and worse. In fact, the idea of lovers of money corresponds with people congratulating themselves on becoming more and more wealthy. The idea of boastful and proud also goes along with knowledge that "puffs up." There appears to be real anarchy and unbridled selfishness. This is not just gangs, but middle class folk.
Prayer: Lord, help me to be faithful and true, balying things that re truly important.
