Rights and Benefits

23“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. 24No one should seek their own good, but the good of others. (1 Corinthians 10:23)

Thoughts: These are Paul's thoughts on his freedom.  He has the right to do anything, but not everything is beneficial.  Paul said this before in 1 Corinthians 6:12.  Just because we can do something doesn't mean it is right, constructive, or beneficial.   We should seek what is beneficial not just for ourselves, but for others as well.
Paul could freely eat food sacrificed to idols, but he is conscious of those who are weak minded about this.  He did not want to offend them or force them to think it was okay.
There are "things indifferent" in which Christians may vary in their opinion.  They are not essential things.  Can or should a Christian drink in the presence of those addicted to alcohol?  Should a Christian smoke pot if it is legal?  Opinions and reasons may vary.  It is not as clear in scripture.

Prayer: Lord, let me do ad understand what is right for me.
