14“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,a each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. (Matthew 25:14-18)
Thoughts: This is a parable about not wasting the gifts God gives us- but instead using them to the best of our abilities. The Lord who owns the wealth- entrusts the wealth to His servants. This is important. We sometimes get the illusion that we have earned our wealth, or we at the least build on the wealth and wisdom of our own family and ancestors. We forget that all that we see- we did not made He did. We forget that all talent and ability and opportunity. But God puts His faith and trust in us. He gives us gifts and then asks us to act on faith because we cannot see Him.
This parable also teaches us the advantage of faith over fear. The one who was afraid did nothing- paralyzing himself with fear. The other two took a risk and multiplied their money.
Prayer: Lord, help me to do the best I can with what you have given me. Forgive me when I fail to take advantage of what you have given. Help me to live in faith and not in fear.
