12/13- 10 Commandments 5- Honor your father
and mother
Read: “Honor your father and your mother
that your days may be long in the land.”
John the Baptist ill turn the hearts of the fathers to their children,
and the disobedient to the wisdom of the right ways.” (Lk. 1:17)
Thoughts: Honoring your parents is
important. They care and sacrifice for
you. Parents can teach you things that
they have learned from experience to help you.
No parent is perfect. Every
parent makes mistakes, but they are still worthy of honor- for without them you
would not exist. In many ways this
commandment teaches us to be thankful people.
Some teach us that this commandment means to honor those that God has
placed to care for us or teach us. When
Jesus came to earth he honored Joseph and Mary- listening to them- though God
the Father was Jesus’ real father.
Activity:
Tell your parents (by words, letter, or text) that you love them and want to
honor them. If you can, give them a blue
ribbon of honor to show you want to honor them.
Tell your parents one thing you are thankful for that they do.
Prayer: Father, help me to honor my parents
even if they mess up. Help me to love
them but above all help me to honor you as my heavenly Father.
