41Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah. (Luke 4:41)
28When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes,c two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.29“What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” (Matthew 8:28-29)
Thoughts: You might expect angels to say that Jesus is the Son of God. They did at the birth and resurrection. But you might not expect demons to admit that Jesus is the Son of God. Perhaps their recognition of his power was the reason Jesus' enemies called him "the prince of demons." Most of the time when the demons proclaimed he was the Son of God, it was a threat to his ministry. If Jesus' enemies thought he was a blasphemer early, then they would have stopped his ministry before it had a chance to get started. As it was, Jesus only ministered for three years. Yet those three years were precious. So Jesus told the demons to be quiet or he cast them into other things. James 2:19 says, "You believe in God- good. Even the demons believe that and shudder." There is no doubt that the demons believe- but they do not trust in God. It is important to trust and love God- not just identify him academically.
Prayer: Help me to believe and trust in you.
