If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)
Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor. 12:3)
Thoughts: the word Lord (kyrios) is not just a feudal term, though it is also a feudal term speaking of the relationship between a lord and vassal. It is a term of respect and honor. The Lord is the one over the others. Jesus is exalted as lord in His resurrection and ascension. One day, the Bible says, He will be exalted even more when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:11). The Lord is the one you obey and listen to. He is the One who provides for us, cares for us as His servants, and to whom we owe our allegiance. The word "Lord" in the Old Testament (adonai) is translated (kyrios) in the New Testament. Calling Jesus "Lord' and even "Lord of lords" is a way to say He is God and worthy of our worship (worthyship).
In the passage above it is very important to affirm or confess that Jesus is your lord. 1 Cor. 12:3 seems to say that to say this sincerely comes from the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Help me to honor you as Lord. May you be Lord of each area in my life- what I say and do.
