Psalm 3

 Psalm 3 a

A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.

1Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!

2Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” b

3But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.

4I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.

5I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.

6I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.

7Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God!

Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.

8From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.

Thoughts:

One reason to believe in God is that when disaster hits- when tragedy strikes- when our enemies threaten to overwhelm us- we are not alone.  We indeed can call out to Someone to help us.
He is a shield around us- He answers us.  He enables us to sleep in times of trouble.
He calms our fears.  Who does not need that?  Who does not want that?
The missionary to others needs to proclaim- "O God you are my help!  Where is your help?0- Don't you want some help in life?"

I have found God to be a help to me time and time again.  I have lived in tenement housing, and have lived in mansions.  I have had plenty and wondered where the next meal will come from.  But God has always been my help and it has assuaged my fear to be able to trust in Him.

Prayer: Lord, help me to proclaim your help, your protection, your answer, your peace.  May others desire your help and find it.  May I point to you.
