12/22- The Importance of Loving God and
neighbor- Matthew 22:36-40
Read: “36“Teacher,
which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37Jesus
replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’c 38This
is the first and greatest commandment. 39And
the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’d 40All
the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Thoughts: The Greatest thing God wants us
to do is love- love Him first, then love those around us. If we love God with our heart, soul, mind,
and strength we will be happy people. We
are designed to love God and to live in His love for us. Because we love God, we are also called to
love the people around us. This begins
with family. Children are called to love
parents, and parents called to love children.
We are also called to love people around us. Both those like us and
those not like us. If we love God and
neighbor we will listen to Him and follow in the way He wants us to go.
Activity: Bake Christmas cookies and share
with a neighbor or one of our shut-ins.
Prayer: Lord, give me grace to grow in love for you and neighbor.
