Heidelberg 24- Trinity in Creed and Bible

4Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “no idol in the world really exists,” and that “there is no God but one.” 6yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. (1 or. 8:4,6)

Thoughts: The Apostles Creed teaches us what to believe, and the creed is divided into three paragraphs respecting the three persons of the Trinity.  The Trinity is not argued here but simply explained as how we experience God revealed in Scripture.  There is one God- yet the Father is God, the Son is God, the Spirit is God- three persons in one essence.  There are many different arguments given by philosophers and theologians that can describe how three could be one.  But the greatest argument for those of us who believe is that God reveals Himself to us as the Trinity in the Bible (see verses below).

Prayer: Lord, you are our great creator, deliverer, and sanctifier.  You made us, redeemed us, and make us holy for yourself.  We give you thanks for who you are.

Q & A 24
Q. How are these articles divided?
A. Into three parts:
God the Father and our creation;
God the Son and our deliverance;
and God the Holy Spirit and our sanctification.
Q & A 25
Q. Since there is only one divine being,why do you speak of three:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?
A. Because that is how God has revealed himself in his Word:these three distinct persons are one, true, eternal God.
