12/5- The Hope of Jacob/Israel- Genesis 49:10 “The Scepter
will not depart until Shiloh comes”
Thoughts:
Jacob, whose name was change to Israel was blessing his twelve sons (whose
descendants would become the 12 tribes)
before he died. He was giving Judah the
prophecy of ruling over his brothers.
This, of course, was fulfilled during the time of King David who was
from Bethlehem in Judah.
There was about a 1900 year break in the rulers of Judah/Judea as the Romans conquered the land and tried to exterminate the Jews- kicking them out of the land. There were Davidic governors and rulers traced through the Maccabees until the birth of Jesus. The New Testament clearly sees Jesus as the Messiah-King who reigns forever and ever (think of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus). Below are some verses about the kingship of Jesus the Christ:
Acts 2:30 "And so, because he was a prophet and knew that GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE,

come into the world, to testify to the truth Everyone who is of the truth hears
My voice."
