The Hope of Israel

12/5- The Hope of Jacob/Israel- Genesis 49:10 “The Scepter will not depart until Shiloh comes”

Thoughts: Jacob, whose name was change to Israel was blessing his twelve sons (whose descendants would become the  12 tribes) before he died.  He was giving Judah the prophecy of ruling over his brothers.  This, of course, was fulfilled during the time of King David who was from Bethlehem in Judah.
There was about a 1900 year break in the rulers of Judah/Judea as the Romans conquered the land and tried to exterminate the Jews- kicking them out of the land.   There were Davidic governors and rulers traced through the Maccabees until the birth of Jesus.  The New Testament clearly sees Jesus as the Messiah-King who reigns forever and ever (think of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus).   Below are some verses about the kingship of Jesus the Christ:

Acts 2:30 "And so, because he was a prophet and knew that GOD HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE,
John 12:15 "FEAR NOT, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY'S COLT."
1 Timothy 6:15 which He will bring about at the proper time--He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
Revelation 17:14 "These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful."
Revelation 19:16  And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."
John 18:37  Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

Song: Once in royal David's city
Stood a lowly cattle-shed
Where a mother laid her baby
In a manger for His bed
Mary was that mother mild
Jesus Christ her little child

He came down to earth from heaven
Who is God and Lord of all
And His shelter was a stable
And His cradle was a stall
With the poor, and mean, and lowly
Lived on earth our Savior holy
