They did so, 9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. (John 2:8-11)
Thoughts: This passage tells us that the miracle of Jesus was real- they could taste it (it wasn't just food coloring). The Master of the Banquet was the taste-tester. It was only through him that the rest of the wedding could get to the miracle of the wine. He was most impressed- not with the miracle (which he probably didn't know about at the point of this passage), but because the wine was great. Jesus not only makes the plain unplain-- He makes the plain extraordinary! This miracle was the first of many. Its effect was not to wow the audience, but to encourage people to follow Him. The disciples believed in Him and followed Him. We should too.
Prayer: Lord, change my plain life into an extraordinary one.
