1-9-13 John 1:35-42- John's Disciples Follow Jesus

35The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
37When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”
They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”
39“Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”
So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
40Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42And he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peterg ).

Thoughts: This was the transitioning for John's disciples to become Jesus' disciples.  In Matthew Jesus is simply walking beside the Sea of Galilee when he just calls the disciples to stop fishing and they drop their nets and follow Him.  But this broadens the story.  It implies Andrew, brother of Simon Peter, was a disciple of John and invited his brother to listen.  So when Jesus called them on the Sea they already knew who Jesus was, had heard Him, and were considering following Him.  Verse 40 gives a hidden clue about John (the apostle) being the other disciple who heard the Baptist point to Jesus.  Later John's brother, James would also join in following Jesus.  It appears both Andrew and John got their brothers to come and hear Jesus.
We too should consider pointing our family members that we love to our larger brother, Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, give me grace to be a witn3ess to relatives and friends.
