These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. 15I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. (Revelation 3)
Thoughts: There were hot springs that brought relaxation to muscles and healing in Laodicea. There were cold springs that brought refreshment and nourishment. But Lukewarm water was not good for anything. I like cold tea - iced tea. I like hot tea. But tea that has been left out for a long time isn't very good. The people of Laodicea were not refreshing or on fire. They were apathetic- disinterested. They yawned at the One who gave His life for them on the cross. They were indifferent to the One who gave them life and offers them hope. They acted as if God didn't matter. Many people who go to church today do the same. They are afraid of getting zealous in their faith. They are afraid to walk by faith instead of sight. For them the faith is an extra to their life- not the main ingredient.
Prayer: Lord, keep me from being apathetic toward you. Instead, help me to be all in for you.
