Doxology of the Creator 11-15-14

11“You are worthy, our Lord and God,

to receive glory and honor and power,

for you created all things,

and by your will they were created

and have their being.” (Revelation 4) 

Thoughts: This is a song of "honor and thanksgiving" before the One who sits on the throne.  So this is a Thanksgiving song.  It is thanksgiving for life itself.  God should receive all honor for we would not be here without God.  We are here because God willed us here.  As The Message translation says "it was created because you wanted it."  Honor (timen) and Power (dunamen) are reminders that we would not be here to honor ourselves or anyone without God.  We would have no power, energy, strength without the Ground of All Being giving us life.
     As we get near the American holiday of Thanksgiving, this is a great verse to remember.  God is worth our time to give thanks.  God is worth our energy to give thanks.  For those who think church is not worth it- they may be right.  But God is worth it.  Worship comes from the word "worthy-ship."  He is worthy of our attention- our honor and our time and energy because without Him we have and are nothing.
