Barnabas

Then after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also. (Galatians 2:1)

Thoughts: Barnabas' very name means "son of encouragement."  It was actually a nickname given to Joseph.  He sold a field and laid the money at the disciples' feet, setting an example for all the church of generosity.  Generosity is a gift of encouragement.  When Paul had no support, (because he had been persecuting the church- and some were cautious that he was not sincere) Barnabas came and took him to the apostleBarnabas even split with Paul in order to encourage John Mark.  John Mark had run away in fear, but Barnabas gave him a second chance.  Later Mark would write the Gospel of Mark.  Paul would also say at the end of his life that Mark was a help.  So Paul's writings and Mark's writings would probably not have happened if Barnabas was not so encouraging.

Prayer: Lord, let me be an encouragement.  Let me look for those hurting and left them up.
