1May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face shine on us— b
2so that your ways may be known on earth,
your salvation among all nations.
3May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.
4May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you rule the peoples with equity
and guide the nations of the earth.
5May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.
6The land yields its harvest;
God, our God, blesses us.
7May God bless us still,
so that all the ends of the earth will fear him. (Psalm 67)
Thoughts: There is definitely an element in the Old Testament that focuses only on Israel as the chosen nation. But the balance is that they were chosen to be a nation of priests- so that all the world and all the nations would hear of God. In this Psalm the plea and wish is that all the peoples would praise God. This is a clear wish that the Gentiles would recognize the One who blesses, guides, and rules the earth. This should be our wish as well
Prayer: Lord, May all the tribes and peoples bless your name. Help me to play a part in making that happen.
