God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 17This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.18There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
Thoughts: This passage draws on the nuances of the love of God. This is the second time John says, "God is love." If we live in love we live in God. If we live in love- God completes our incomplete love by His own love. Love casts out fear. We grow in trust and do not need to be afraid of our heavenly Father- partly because God's love shown in Jesus helps us to trust. Jesus taught us to call God "Father." God is not simply a "Master" He is a Father who loves His children. God's love helps us to overcome fear with trust.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your love that wells up into your essence.
