Psalm 21

 Psalm 21 a

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1The king rejoices in your strength, Lord.

How great is his joy in the victories you give!

2You have granted him his heart’s desire

and have not withheld the request of his lips. b

3You came to greet him with rich blessings

and placed a crown of pure gold on his head.

4He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—

length of days, for ever and ever.

5Through the victories you gave, his glory is great;

you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.

6Surely you have granted him unending blessings

and made him glad with the joy of your presence.

7For the king trusts in the Lord;

through the unfailing love of the Most High

he will not be shaken.

8Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies;

your right hand will seize your foes.

9When you appear for battle,

you will burn them up as in a blazing furnace.

The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,

and his fire will consume them.

10You will destroy their descendants from the earth,

their posterity from mankind.

11Though they plot evil against you

and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed.

12You will make them turn their backs

when you aim at them with drawn bow.

13Be exalted in your strength, Lord;

we will sing and praise your might.

Thoughts: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."  Here, the ruler of the people rejoices in the strength of God who helps the king triumph over their enemies.
For the first time in a long, long time, I do not hear much about "God" on the campaign trail except for the words "so help me God."  I don't think talk about God is popular right now.  But the candidate/ruler's prayer for God to help them fulfill their promises, their office, their dreams to make things better is important.
What makes us steadfast and unshaken is a trust in the One who is unshakeable.  There are and will be difficult times.  In this world, we are not in heaven yet.  We will have tribulation- but we can be of good cheer for the One who overcomes the world.  He is our strength because He overcomes and gives us the victory that is His to give.
Missionaries and rulers have an interesting dance.  Missionaries are called to speak to rulers and encourage them to have faith. Missionaries are to pray for rulers and their families- the deeper part behind the celebrity worship and the speeches.  So today, pray for those who are over you- mayor, representative, governor, president, candidates.  Pray that God will strengthen the good, and let those who have selfish or evil intent fail.

Prayer: Lord, may your good triumph.  May your strength sustain those who rule.  May your strength sustain the missionaries of this world- and may it sustain me this day.
