When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, "Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God." (Luke 14:15)
29I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” (Mathew 26:29)
Thoughts: Jesus speaks of our eating and drinking with Him in heaven. In heaven we can enjoy our fellowship with God- eating and drinking with Him- but without any problems that are associated with eating and drinking (no diabetes, digestive problems, anything that would threaten our lives). In heaven the pleasures of earth do not go away, but become real and the desire to distort these pleasures with sin is gone. The symbol of the joy and satisfaction of Jesus is found in eating. Food and the ability to eat it is a gift of God that is ultimately fulfilled in heaven where there will be no food shortages nor problems with enjoying this gift of God. When God placed humans on earth they were in a garden with abundant food. In heaven the tree of life and the fruits that never die live. In other words, all our needs are met- but also our good pleasures are fulfilled.
Prayer: Help me, Lord, to enjoy the gift of eating here, but also look forward to eating with you in heaven.
