33For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ 35But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
Thoughts: Jesus was for all people. He wanted all people to know Him. He did not care about castes or labels. He would purposefully eat and drink with those who did not have great reputations. Jesus did not care about being politically correct in the eyes of the cultural elite. Instead He cared about loving others and pleasing God. He knew that the esteem of people is hard to please. John the Baptist was popular but was seen as two ascetic. Jesus was popular but was seen as too loosey- goosey. Jesus just wanted to love others- no matter what their reputation. In fact, he often said those who have been forgiven much love much. So Jesus reached out to those who needed much forgiveness.
Prayer: Lord, give me a heart for those who need you. Give me opportunities to eat and drink with others who need you too.
