3Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.a ”
4“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
5Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spiritb gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘Youc must be born again.’ 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” (John 3)
Thoughts: Most scholars believe Nicodemus was exposed to the idea of proselytes becoming Jews by being born again. But Jesus was asking Jews to be born again. Yet, there is a spiritual rebirth necessary when someone believes in Jesus. It is not a flesh birth- like being born a Jew. It is an opening of the blind eyes- the hearing of the deaf ears. It is being born all over again. Life begins when someone starts to believe in Jesus. Being a Christian is not about a political stance. It is about a change of heart not a change in vote or simply a change in mind.
Prayer: Lord, let me be a new creation to find your hope.
