You, LORD, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation. (Lamentations 5:19)
His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. (Luke 1:50- Mary)
Thoughts:
God is concerned not just for the younger (Pepsi?) generation, not for the gerontocracy or older generation. God is concerned for all people, and the power that people desire is secondary to His concern.
In Lamentations it is recorded that God still is concerned for the next generation even though the older generation had pretty much been wiped out.
In Luke it was the opposite. It was a praise from Mary that God had remembered all generations- through this baby-Messiah.
God wants us to pass the faith on from one generation to another. There is an important role for the church in Christian education. The first part of that is making sure the next generation hears the Gospel and has every opportunity to believe and follow the Creator-Redeemer.
Prayer: Lord, give me a heart for the generation that will follow mine.
