Trust in the Midst of Mystery

6Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
7He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
9After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. (Acts 1:6-9)

Thoughts: We are naturally curious.  Lord, will the end come now?  What will the end look like?  What will heaven look like?  Jesus purposefully did not answer these curiosity-filled questions.  If He gave the answer, they/we would not be able to comprehend it.  John Calvin said that Jesus tells us there is a home for us heaven and how to get there but doesn't say much about the furniture in heaven.  He means that a lot is mysterious and we are meant to trust in God's goodness.  Having faith in God really is believing He is good the way He describes Himself in Holy Scripture.  1 John 3:2 says our bodies will be like His resurrected body.  We get hints, but we don't fully understand and that is okay.

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust in you even if I cannot fully comprehend your being and presence.
