Exchanging Riches for Our Soul

22When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. (Matthew 19:22)

Thoughts: Would that this man would have given up everything than his own soul.  Jesus once asked, "What would you give in exchange for your soul?"  Apparently this young man was willing to give his trinkets in exchange for his soul.  He may have had a lot of trinkets, maybe lots of houses and lands- but he was not willing to give them up. Would that he would have taken two or three steps and turned around and come back to Jesus.  Some make no time for Jesus- there time is for their work or for their play or for their stuff.  Some make no room for Him in their lives- kicking Him to the manger of their lives.  The Rich Young Ruler listened to Jesus a little bit, respected His advice, but would not act on the advice.  He believed the teaching of Jesus was true enough because the young man was sad.  But his sadness was more remorse and not repentance.  Our call is not just to learn Jesus' teaching, but to practice it.

Prayer: Lord, help me to honor you above all riches and all things.
