The Good Teacher

17“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. (Matthew 19:17)

Thoughts: Jesus was asking this rich young ruler basically- who makes the rules?  Who decides what is good?  One person can decide something good and another may disagree.  But God is the ultimate decider of what is right.  He has the right to make the rules and give directions- because good is defined by our Maker, and by one who can be consistent and healthy to the way things are made.  The Bible talks a good deal about God is faithfully good and we are not.  We all sin.  Every Bible character- every hero or heroine has flaws and makes mistakes.
Jesus is basically saying, to be careful who you call "good."  But He was subtly claiming goodness and divinity.  Jesus is the good teacher who can tell us what is good and lead us into goodness.

Prayer: Good teacher, Hep me to listen and follow your goodness.
