3/11- Declaring God’s Glory with Disability Care- Luke 14:12-14

3/11- Declaring God’s Glory with - Disability Care-       Luke 14:12-14

12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” (Lk. 12:12-14)

Thoughts: Too many times the first question, we ask is "what's in it for me?"  When we are in love with someone we ask "what is in it that will make that other person happy?"  When we are truly in love with God, we are forgetful of our own temporary good, and ask "what is in it to please God?"  God is not just concerned with the survival of the fittest.   God is concerned with those who cannot help themselves, and perhaps places them near us so we may be more compassionate people.  We fail when we say, "let the government take care of them" of "Let the religious professionals take care of them."
I am reminded of what Medical Missions Inc. does in Peru where they have started schools for handicapped children (SCOTA) where the government could not.  I have hopes that my own church will have space for children with disabilities in its new Children's Ministry Building.

Prayer: Open my eyes, Lord, to see those who are hurting around me. Give me strength, courage and ability to help those in need and show your kindness.
