Drafting off Jesus

1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Thoughts: Today I watched the Olympic Road Cycling Race, and saw a terrible accident among the three leaders. In the end, two cyclers (Greg van Avermaet and Jakob Fuglsang) drafting off of each other helped win the gold and silver.   The lone leader who seemed to have an insurmountable lead going into the last mile and a half (Majka).  But he had no one to push him, to draft off of, and the two other riders swiftly passed the leader who could not recover.
Jesus is the leader off of whom we draft.  He is the One we follow through death into life.  We should follow Jesus over the mountains and through the valleys of life to the finished line.  Let us fix our eyes on Him who is the pioneer of our faith and the first to rise from the dead eternally.

Prayer: Lord, let me fix my eyes on you, following in your path.
