Run with the Horses

Jeremiah 12:5 “If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?

Thoughts: God was answering Jeremiah's complaint about his service to the Lord being hard.  God was trying to get Jeremiah to not give up in hard times when disaster was coming.  Indeed, Jeremiah would face the horror of the fall of Jerusalem.  We may think our threshold for pain and endurance is lower than it is.  God pushes us at times to be our best and to rely on Him in the tough times.
Tonight I saw some favored swimmers swim down to their competition instead of swimming up to their best times. It is too easy to compare ourselves to others instead of doing our best. Comparing ourselves can wear us out. Relying on God can help us go forward.  Runners are told to not look around of behind for that will slow them down.  Let us look to our goal and do our best.

Prayer: Lord, give me grace to not look around but look ahead to you.
