8/4/13- Music and Worship

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. (Colossians 3:16)

Thoughts: When we think of church, we should think of worship.  Christian worship is characterized by prayer, scripture, and song.  Many of today's singers began singing their song in church- including classical, African-American and country singers (Beyonce, Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child; Justin Timberlake, Jessica Simpson; Whitney Houston; Usher Raymond, Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, Tim McGraw).  Christians, you see have something to sing about whether there is trouble and sorrow or joy and laughter.  Paul sang in prison, Christians have sung even when being martyred (the Reformed French Huguenots and Covenanters especially).
Christians lift up their voices to God- singing together in harmony with each other.

Prayer: May you put a song in my heart, O God, that will go up to your throne, and be in harmony with other voices both on this side of heaven and the the next.
