8/7/13- Music and Faith

23 Whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take up his lyre and play. Then relief would come to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him. (1 Samuel 16:23)

Thoughts: Music calmed the demon-afflicted Saul, and we know it calms the savage beast.  Even atheists describe the right kind of music eliciting a sense of awe and reverence.  Contrary to what some have said, there is no special religious beat; there is no special religious instrument (not even the harp or the organ); there is no special sacred rhythm.  The devil doesn't have all the good music, nor does the faith have all the bad.  Good music is a blessing.  Bad music is noise and a curse.  It is important that music is played well, practiced.  Christian music is best when it is clear, harmonious, and the words are scripturally based.  There is a spiritual dimension to the Bible that should not be underestimated.  When combined.  Faith inspires music- music enhances faith- they go together.

Prayer: May my music glorify you.  May my faith enhance my music.
